God is With You in Every Transition

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you...” Isaiah 43:2

Transitions can feel overwhelming. New schools, therapies, diagnoses, routines, or even

uncertain futures. For families with children who have special needs, change often carries extra weight. There are more questions, more unknowns, and sometimes more fear.

As a mom of two adult daughters with special needs, we have experienced countless

transitions. I clearly remember some of our first ones. My almost 3 year old had recently been diagnosed with autism. We had a 3 month old that had been born with spina bifida so we were so busy with surgeries, doctor appointments and sleepless nights that were typical for a family with a newborn. Months passed and now it was time for our 3 year old to start pre-school. It was our first transition that seemed unbearable but we got through it! God was with us.

Isaiah 43:2 doesn’t say if you pass through deep waters-it says when. And right alongside that promise comes something even more powerful: God is with you in it. God was with us

through our first big transition and has been with us ever since. After many years we still have

difficult moments and changes to go through but now rest assuredly that God is with us.

While routines may shift and plans may fall apart, God remains constant. Your child’s needs

may evolve, but God’s care does not. What feels uncertain to you is never uncertain to Him.

God sees your child fully-every strength, every challenge, every detail-and loves them

completely. He also sees YOU. Your advocacy, your exhaustion, your quiet sacrifices. You are

not navigating this transition alone.

For the weary parent:

There may be days when you feel unprepared, you question your decisions or you grieve what you hoped things would look like. In those moments, remember God goes before you.

Deuteronomy 31:8 says: “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

This reassurance that was given to Joshua and the Israelites as they went through a huge

transition can also be applied to our lives today. Remember, God is already in tomorrow’s

therapy session, already in the classroom, already in the unknown.

God is not just guiding your family through this transition-He is walking in it with you.
